Top 10 Home Remedies for Mosquito Bites

If you happen to live in an area where mosquitoes are invading and will not spare your skin, then you already know how disturbingly painful the scratch can get. Not only you can get a disease via their bites, but also that might end up with terrible complications and sometimes death. You should be very careful and knowing the following home remedies would only help you. So next time you would feel like scratching that little red dot that a mosquito left you with, just remember to use some of the following remedies to stop it. This way you would sooth your pain and you would also save some money on over the counter medicine. The following are some natural and home remedies that happen to work.

#1. Milk and water
Mix the two liquids in a glass and dip a cloth inside. Gently pass with the dipped cloth over the places where you have mosquito bites. Rub gently. It would sooth the pain and the urge for scratching will be gone.

#2. Ice
It would be enough just one ice cube for passing over the painful stop. The ice is a well known cure for swollen skin spots. Just stick the ice cube over the spot and hold there for a while.

#3. Vinegar
Even though it has strong smell, the vinegar can be very helpful for soothing your painful mosquito bite. Dip a cotton ball in vinegar and press it over the bitten spot. Vinegar would remove the scratching sensation and kill any bacteria. If you have several mosquito bites, then fill your tube with hot water and add a few table spoons of vinegar, then lie inside and let the water with vinegar do the miracle.


#4. Tea bag
Whether it would be chamomile or green tea, the tea bag, especially cold is a good way to sooth the painful spot. The scratching would disappear, and the swelling will go low.

#5. Honey
Even though it is sticky, the honey can improve your situation very much. The honey is a very old remedy for curing skin problems, and since no bacteria lives in it, it would be a great way to sooth your red dots. If you decide to use it, there won’t be any irritations, scratching or swelling spots.

#6. Lemon juice
Squeeze half a lemon in a glass, dip a cotton ball or a piece of cloth in the juice and pass over your critical spots where the mosquito bit you. Not only the scratching will be gone, but also the lemon (its juice is antibacterial) would keep the spot clean and safe from further complications.

#7. Basil
You might have heard that keeping a vase with basil near your windows would keep the mosquitoes away from your house. Apparently the smell keeps these creatures away, but if you happen to have a red dot from a mosquito bite, just press a few leaves from the basil and keep them over the spot. It would cool the spot and you will smell good.


#8. Etheric oils
Lavender and coconut oil would reduce the painful itching and scratching, the pain and the swelling that are caused by it. Still, if you are not sure how to use the oil, or if you happen to have sensitive skin, consult your doctor or your pharmacist.

#9. Tooth paste
It is a well known fast remedy for drying up acne or herpes, but it will also help you with mosquito bites. It would cool the spot and dry the irritated skin. If you are going to use toothpaste just be sure to clean the spot well before adding new layer.

#10. Banana peel
The banana peel turns out to be a great way to sooth painful itching caused by mosquito bites. Next time you feel like scratching the itchy spot, just press banana peel over it and let it work its magic. Also, you can use the banana peel to sooth painful insect bites. Of course, don’t rely just on this home remedy. If the situation gets worse, please call your doctor and ask for medical help.
