Hard water stains are mineral deposits resulting from a build-up of alkaline in hard water. Hard water has a lot of minerals such as limestone, calcium, and magnesium that stain surfaces. While many powerful cleaners are available, most of them contains chemicals that are toxic to our body. Since these hard water deposits are alkaline on the pH scale they are easily removed by something mildly acidic, such as distilled white vinegar. The acetic acid in the vinegar easily dissolves the calcium and hard water deposits and makes it easy to remove.
Here is a simpler and effective way to get rid of mineral deposits produced by hard water.

Here is a simpler and effective way to get rid of mineral deposits produced by hard water.
- Put a bowl or small container in the sink and pour some distilled white vinegar in it.
- Soak an old cotton cloth, rag or towel in the vinegar.
- Make sure the sink is completely dry, now wrap the soaked towel on the stained surfaces pressing it firmly against the sink.
- Leave it for an hour, then soak it again into the vinegar.
- Using an old sponge, gently scrub the sink so as to further take out the hard water deposits. At this point you should notice that the mineral deposits are coming off and that the sink is getting shinier.
- Again, place your cotton cloth on any remaining stains, especially on areas that have more deposits and let it act for another hour.
- Gently scrub the surface once again. The result is a shiny and clean sink.
