Baby Laina Beasley was born in 2005 after spending 13 years as an embryo. In the early 1990s mother Debbie Beasley underwent in vitro fertilization and gave birth to twins in 1992. The babies were triplets at first but one of them was lost halfway through Debbie’s pregnancy.



The doctor who performed the procedure was later discovered to had taken eggs and embryos without the parents’s knowledge and and sent them for research to other scientists. The Beasleys managed to track down some of their stolen embryos to an East Coast university. They tried to get pregnant again in 1996 but it was unsuccessful as Debbie went into a shock because of a bad reaction to a fertility drug. The embryos thawed for the procedure didn’t make as 20% of them usually don’t survive. The couple made another attempt in 2005 and, miraculously, not only got pregnant with the thawed embryo but gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby girl.
